Hivestack’s Diversity, Inclusivity and Equity Policy

Our human capital is our most valuable asset. The collective sum of the individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, inventiveness, innovation, self-expression, unique capabilities and talent that our employees invest in their work represents a significant part of not only our culture, but our reputation and company’s achievement as well.

We embrace and encourage our employees’ differences in age, color, disability, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, political affiliation, race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, and other characteristics that make our employees unique.

Our core values reflect the essence of who we are and how we work towards a common goal - excellence in all aspects of work and beyond. People first; Move as one; Embrace the fast lane;  and Innovation over comfort.

Definitions

Diversity: Diversity is the presence of difference within a giving setting. In this case the workplace is the setting and the differences typically refer to identity like race and gender, and sometimes ethnicity, religion, nationality, or sexual orientation. A person isn’t diverse. They’re unique. They can bring diversity to a group though. You’re not looking for a diverse candidate. Diversity is about a collective or a group.

Equity: Equity is an approach that ensures everyone has access to the same opportunities. Equity recognizes that we don’t all start from the same place because advantages and barriers exist. It’s a process that acknowledges uneven starting places and seeks to correct the imbalance. Diversity and inclusion are both outcomes. Equity is not. It refers to the process an organization engages in to ensure that people with marginalized identities have the opportunity to grow, contribute, and develop.

Inclusion: Inclusion has to do with people with different identities feeling and/or being valued, leveraged, and welcomed within a given setting (whether that’s a team, workplace, or industry). Longtime Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion educator, Verna Myers, said: “Diversity is being asked to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance.” Inclusion isn’t a natural consequence of diversity. You can have a diverse team of talent, but that doesn’t mean they feel welcomed or valued or are given opportunities to grow.

Hivestack’s DEI goals:

Hivestack DEI initiatives are applicable to our practices and policies on recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, professional development and training, promotions and role transitions, social activities, layoffs and terminations. The DEI mindset is also applied in the ongoing development of our work environment built on the premise of gender and diversity equity that encourages and aligns with Hivestack’s 4 official values: People First, Embracing the Fast Lane, Move as One and Innovation Over Comfort.

  • Respectful communication and cooperation between all employees

  • Teamwork and employee participation, permitting the representation of all groups and employee perspectives.

  • Work/life balance through flexible work schedules to accommodate employees’ varying needs.

Hivestack’s DEI Principles:

At Hivestack we are committed to creating an inclusive, equitable, open and safe environment for all. As such we have high expectations that all employees of Hivestack embrace inclusivity and belonging and treat others with dignity and respect at all times. We have zero tolerance for actions and behaviors that do not support a culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion. All employees are expected to exhibit conduct that reflects inclusion during work, at work functions on or off the work site, and at all other company-sponsored and industry events. It is also mandatory for all employees to attend and complete annual diversity awareness training to enhance their knowledge to fulfill this responsibility including Harassment prevention training.

Any employee found to have exhibited any inappropriate conduct or behavior against others may be subject to disciplinary action per Hivestack Harassment Policy and code of conduct.

Here are a few of the ways we are internally working to support a DEI-forward workplace:

DEI resources, implementation and accountability:

  • We have created a DEI committee whose mission is to make Hivestack accountable for its initiatives and commitment

  • We have added a page on our website on DEI that confirms and outlines our statement

  • Confirming DEI programs and budget supporting DEI initiatives we will be allocated every year

  • Adoption of a zero-tolerance stance to any action or behavior that undermines this policy.

  • This DEI Policy must be represented across all departments including HR, Marketing, Product, Engineering and Sales.

  • Employees who believe they have been subjected to any kind of discrimination that conflicts with the company’s diversity policy and initiatives should seek assistance from a supervisor or a TEWI representative.

Recruitment and hiring:

  • Our job description and posting should be as neutral as possible for all to feel we are inclusive and following our DEI statement. We have developed a system for being more intentional and conscious of bias during the hiring, promoting, or evaluating process.  All managers will be trained on hiring best practices and equitable practices

Internal communications and management:

  • Hivestack is compliant with bill 96, extension of bill 101 from the Office Québécois de la Langue Française, enforcing the usage of French as the principal business language in Québec’s organizations ; French must be used as the preferred language when communicating with employees and clients in Quebec.

However, when communicating with employees and clients out of Québec, our preferred language of communication is English
